Digital Trends has a review of the Canon PowerShot A720 IS and writes:

The camera also has the much preferred optical image stabilization to help eliminate blur in low-light situations. It even runs on a pair of simple everyday AA batteries as do all of Canon’s A series cameras rather than expensive proprietary lithium ion rechargeables. A quick tour of the ‘Net found this camera for less than $225 USD from reputable sites. …

Shooting outdoors the photos were spot on. Colors were very accurate with barely a spec of noise. The shots had the “Canon” feel I like so much. There was little purple fringing of tree branches against a bright blue sky. Macro shots of some of the last hydrangeas of the session were especially vibrant and lifelike.  …

The PowerShot A720 IS is a fine performer outdoors but has its faults in low light and it is a little pokey when you use the flash. It’s not a slam dunk winner but neither is it a dog—it’s a compromise. And compromises rarely make everyone jump for joy.

DigitalCameraInfo has a review of the Kodak EasyShare Z812 IS. These are is part of what they write:

The Kodak EasyShare Z812 IS is the top camera in the manufacturer’s line of mid- and ultra-zooms. The 8.1-megapixel ultra-zoom can capture high definition stills and video, a digital camera feature that is still in its infancy, and not offered in many models. In addition to HD output, the EasyShare Z812 IS is equipped with a 12x optically stabilized lens and face detection. The Kodak EasyShare Z812 IS had an original price of $299.95 that has dropped to $279.95. …

The Kodak Z812 IS is competitively priced, at about $100 less than most ultra-zoom compacts, and is certainly less expensive than the other HD video output still camera, the Canon PowerShot TX1. The $279.95 price, however, isn’t counting the extra $100 users will need to throw in for the Kodak HDTV dock to actually watch HD video.

Overall the EasyShare Z812 IS is an affordable ultra-zoom that takes decent images for the price. However, there are models by competing manufacturers that cost about $100 more that offer more zoom and better overall image quality.

This autofocus fisheye lens is designed for use with digital SLR cameras equipped with APS-C size image sensors. The Nikon version produces a diagonal angle of view of 180°(154°for Sigma, 167°for Canon). The diagonal field of view of this fisheye lens produces striking images with exaggerated perspective and distortion. The minimum focusing distance of 13.5cm/5.3inch, and maximum magnification 1:3.3 allows subjects to be as close as 1.8cm/0.7inch from the lens’ front element. This close focusing capability allows close-up photography and also it is possible to make use of large depth of field that covers wide range of subjects. The Integral hood blocks out extraneous light and the Super Multi-Layer Coating minimizes flare and ghosting, creating superior image quality.
