Imaging Resource Review: Canon PowerShot G9

Canon PowerShot G9 Digital CameraImaging Resource reviews the Canon PowerShot G9 where they write:

The Canon G9 includes optical image stabilization, where a lens element is moved inside the lens body to compensate for camera movement. You can frame images with the Canon G9 via its optical zoom viewfinder (an increasingly rare option these days), or on a 3.0-inch LCD display. …

The Canon G9 lets you switch between them pretty easily, too. Press the Focus mode button, then the Menu button to toggle through the three modes or the Display button to change the size of the green target. You can also just pick one in the LCD menu system. …

Sure, I wish the Canon G9 were just a bit smaller to fit in a shirt pocket without strangling me. But at least the Canon G9’s large body contains a lot of good stuff. With above-average performance, a 6x optical zoom, image stabilization, and that gorgeous 3.0-inch LCD, the Canon G9 is the G-series reborn. Though it’s still lacking the swivel screen, I found the Canon G9’s big LCD useful enough that I didn’t miss it much. Though I’m one reviewer who will take the noise at ISO 1,600 and work with it later, I do wish ISO weren’t stranded out on that dial, retro-cool as it is.

Imaging Resource Review: Olympus SP-560

Olympus SP-560 Digital CameraImaging Resource reviews the Olympus SP-560 UltraZoom Digital Camera where they write:

The Olympus SP-560 UltraZoom digital camera features a 1/2.35 inch CCD imager with a resolution of eight megapixels, coupled with an Olympus-branded 18x optical zoom lens with an extremely wide-ranging choice of 35mm equivalent focal lengths from 27 to 486mm and f/2.8 to 4.5 maximum aperture. …

The SP-560 has a few tricks up its sleeve, too. Face detection is increasingly commonplace and we’re glad to see it available on a long zoom. It’s one of four autofocus options, among which are the Olympus iEPS automatic focus over the whole scene, Spot, and Area focusing. …

Long zooms used to be 10x or maybe 12x, but 2007 was the year that Olympus introduced the 18x zoom; and before the year goes out, Olympus has rolled out an improved version with more resolution, and speed enhancements galore. In addition to its 8.0 megapixel sensor, the Olympus SP-560 also sports new features like the Effects Preview and Shadow Adjustment Technology. More importantly, shutter lag is greatly reduced, making the Olympus SP-560 nearly irresistible.

Brother Printer, Multi-Function Center(R) (MFC) models

Brother PrinterNew Flagship model features 4.2″ Widescreen Color LCD, Fast Printing Speeds, Ethernet & Wireless Connectivity and 5.8 GHz Digital Cordless Handset

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Brother International Corporation continues its mission to introduce unique, feature-rich all-in-one products, with three new additions to its line of low-profile color inkjet Multi-Function Center(R) (MFC) models–MFC-465CN ($149.99*), MFC-685CW ($199.99*), and MFC-885CW ($249.99*), each will be available in October. Brother’s newest color inkjet products continue to challenge the market by delivering robust feature sets including increased print speeds and built-in network interfaces for all three models. In addition, Brother is the industry’s first manufacturer to include a widescreen color LCD on its all-in-one printers, for a valuable range of benefits that include a greater ease of use, “before & after” photo edit viewing and fax previewing to help eliminate needless printing of “junk” faxes. The new widescreen LCDs are available on the MFC-685CW and the MF-C885CW models.

logo_brotherlogo.jpg

“These new models follow Brother’s blueprint of exceeding the expectations of today’s home and home office consumers by delivering many more features at a better value than the competition”, said Joyce Brittingham, Senior Product Manager at Brother International. “Our new widescreen color LCD models show Brother’s dedication to enhance the user experience and provide a unique customer value”.

EXPANDING NETWORK CONNECTIVITY

The MFC-465CN, MFC-685CW and MFC-885CW come standard with a built-in Ethernet network interface to enable the sharing of printing, scanning, faxing and media card access for multiple users within a network. The new MFC-685CW and the MFC-885CW include a built-in wireless (802.11b/g) network interface, allowing the freedom to place the MFC where it is most convenient to access without the need to be connected to a computer with wires. Users can connect it directly to a wireless router via the Ethernet interface or print using the wireless connection in either infrastructure or ad-hoc mode.

NEW CATEGORY-FIRST WIDESCREEN COLOR LCD

Brother is the first color inkjet manufacturer to add widescreen color LCDs to select models of its all-in-one color inkjet products. The MFC-885CW offers a wide 4.2-inch LCD screen, while the MFC-685CW includes a wide 3.3-inch display. Along with the wide LCDs, these models also have the ability to enhance photos from a digital camera media card or USB flash drive on the color LCD screen. Another ideal use for the widescreen is the ability to preview incoming faxes before printing–therefore eliminating the need to print “junk” faxes. When the “Fax Preview” function is turned on, the MFC will store all received faxes in memory. The user can then preview the faxes on the widescreen LCD and then either print the fax or delete it.

The widescreen also gives Brother the ability to enhance the on-screen help information and set-up. The photo enhancement capabilities are easy to use and include auto correct, skin tone enhancement, scenery enhancement, red eye removal, photo conversion to monochrome and sepia. All of these features allow users to view images before and after editing the photo. Other features include image cropping and viewing a slideshow of the images on the media card.

FEATURING INNOBELLA(TM) PRINTING TECHNOLOGY

Brother’s newest MFC models use Brother’s lineup of Innobella(TM) ink cartridges and photo papers. When used with Brother’s print engine technology, the Innobella(TM) ink and paper enables and empowers consumers to accurately reproduce beautiful, vibrant, radiant color images while simultaneously enhancing image permanence and longevity.

Innobella(TM) inks and papers were conceived and engineered to become fundamental, operational components of an integrated printing “system”. Together, this system delivers reliable, consistent and dazzling color reproductions from the first print to the last.

The new MFC line uses a 4-cartridge ink system that only requires the user to replace the color that runs out. The LC-51 series Innobella inks have yields of up to 500 pages for black and 400 pages for each color cartridge (based on 5% page coverage).

Sony CyberShot DSC-H3

Sony CyberShot DSC-H3 PictureThe Sony DSC-H3 is the latest addition to the company’s Cyber-shot H-series, forming a new entry point to the line beneath the existing DSC-H7 and DSC-H9 models.

In August 2007, Sony announced the new super zoom digital camera, Sony CyberShot DSC-H3. The CyberShot DSC-H series offer prosumer digital camera type, with high zoom. Sony CyberShot DSC-H3 is the smallest among other camera in same series.

10x Optical Zoom Lens

With the power of Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens, this camera offer great zoom range. Actually this camera is the smallest optical zoom range among CyberShot DSC-H series. It seems, Sony decrease the optical zoom range to down the price.

Image Sensor

With 1/2.5” CCD sensor, it has 8.3 MP total and 8.1 MP effective pixel. With this great sensor you can pick up high resolution image. This camera support 3264 x 2448, 2592 x 1944, 2048 x 1536, 640 x 480, 3264 x 2176 (3:2), 1920 x 1080 (16:9) image sizes.

HDTV Support

The model features high-definition component output, putting a high-resolution spin on the family slideshow. By connecting the new camera to any HDTV set with Sony’s VMC-MHC1 high-definition component cable (sold separately), families can see their digital photos the same way they watch their favorite TV shows – in full 1080 HD resolution.

The camera is equipped with a built-in slide show function so you can view photos, complete with transitions choreographed to your choice of programmed music clips or by adding your own. When the camera is connected to a new Sony BRAVIA® television, photos are optimized for television viewing with Sony’s new “Photo TV HD” mode.

Image Stabilization

To reduce chances of blurry photos, the H3 model incorporates Super Steady Shot optical image stabilization that minimizes blur caused by camera shake - an important feature when shooting at slow shutter speeds at full zoom. The unit’s high sensitivity (up to ISO 3200) will also capture well-exposed, natural-looking photos, even in challenging low-light conditions.

Dynamic Range Optimizer

Equipped with Sony’s Dynamic Range Optimizer, originally developed for the Alpha digital SLR system, the new camera can analyze captured image data, and instantly determine the best exposure and tonality of each picture before JPEG compression. Other helpful in-camera functions include red-eye correction and photo retouching effects with filters.

Target Market

In 2006, Sony launched Sony launched two CyberShot DSC-H series, DSC-H2 and DSC-H5. Both cameras model has 12x zoom range. In February 2007, launced DSC-H series, DSC-H7 and DSC-H9. Both cameras has 15x optical zoom.

In August Sony launched DSC-H3. It seems DSC-H3 is not successor from previous series. This camera is compact super zoom camera. The target market are people who loved documented activity, beginner photographer hobbies. People who need to shot daily activities, who have mobile activities, who have low budget, should be their target market.

With the target market is low budget people who hungry quality camera, probably the want to compete with other series of smaller superzooms camera from other companies.

Nikon Coolpix P5100 Feature Highlights

Superb image quality
Excellent imaging quality is a priority for the Coolpix P5100, from the 12.1 effective megapixels of imaging power produced by its 1/1.72-inch RGB CCD and new digital image processing engine, to its powerful 3.5x Zoom-Nikkor lens and optical lens shift VR.

Shooting modes that give the user greater control
Four exposure modes accessed via the Mode dial provide greater control over camera operation. Programmed Auto [P] mode automatically selects the optimal shutter and aperture settings. Shutter-priority Auto [S] lets the user select shutter speed, while the camera sets the optimal aperture. Aperture-priority Auto [A] offers 10-step manual control over the aperture setting to let the user decide depth of field, while the camera automatically adjusts the shutter speed. Manual [M] exposure mode provides full control over both the aperture and shutter speed settings.

Nikon COOLPIX P5100 PictureProven lens shift VR image stabilization
Optical lens shift VR (Vibration Reduction) is field-proven technology originally developed for interchangeable lenses used in Nikon SLR camera systems. The VR technology provides the ability to shoot at shutter speeds as much as three stops slower without blurring the image, as well as producing a smoother viewfinder image which aids composition. Nikon’s exclusive VR system also yields sharper results when shooting in low light when using the 3.5x Zoom-Nikkor lens, or when reaching farther with an optional telephoto converter lens.

ISO 3200 capability
Extended light sensitivity range up to ISO 3200 adds the power to shoot more effectively in lower lighting conditions or to capture fast moving subjects with outstanding clarity. And the new image processing engine produces clear results, even when shooting with high ISO settings.

The convenience of system expandability
Optional system components further expand the photographic possibilities of the Coolpix P5100. Nikon’s 0.67x wide-angle converter (WC-E67) and 3.0x tele-converter (TC-E3ED) lenses are available to extend the range of the attached 3.5x Zoom-Nikkor lens, while a built-in accessory shoe supports the use of Nikon’s advanced i-TTL flash control for external flashes, including the Speedlight SB-400, SB-600, and SB-800. These accessories are not included and must be purchased separately.
