Digital Camera in Lighter (a Zippo Camera)

At a glance it looks like an ordinary silver Zippo lighter, but it is really a camera. Just flip up the cover and press a button…that’s it. Yah, it sounds kind of creepy but it is really cool.

The camera also has a photo timer and continuous shooting functions. Uploading the pictures is just as easy. The camera is USB compatible, and once you have installed the included software retrieving the pictures from the camera is a cinch. Just plug one side of the cord into your camera, and the other into your USB port. The software then gives you the options of printing, formatting, cropping, archiving, and manipulating your photos.

Pros:

- Cheap camera
- Good built quality, really
- Battery charges fast and lasts long
- Lots of configuration options in the menu
- Nice softwares (for Windows)
- Really good resolution!!!
- Outdoor pics becomes very very very beautiful
- Small and compact (still with good res)
- Works very well on Linux

Cons:

- I had some troubles to turn on the camera in the firsts days of usage, but it’s working very well now. Sometimes I still have a similar problem when I intensely use the flash; maybe it’s something related to the battery.
- If you mind on details, there’s a strange but interesting texture in the photos, they look a little like paintings, but I don’t really consider it as a defect, it’s just different to what I’m used to.
- My mother language is Portuguese, so I set the camera to the Portuguese language mode, but it was a hooorible Portuguese, fullfiled of errors and kiddy mistakes, very very poor.

The camera, without its underwater case, is very tiny. I’ve taken 185 pictures, some underwater and some regular, and only about 15 were disappointing. Pictures will be blurry if the camera is not held still. Since it was inexpensive I did not expect it to be as good as my regular digital camera, so I’m ok with the proportion of good pictures.
The underwater casing is nice and sturdy. I don’t know how it is different than the more expensive models which are sold separately for other cameras. I snorkeled for several hours on three different occasions and the casing did not leak. It is easy to get the camera into and out of the case. The buttons all functioned nicely.
Pros
-Housing is the best thing about it – great quality, very well-made and easy to use, no hint of leakage during multiple uses.
-Camera floats while in housing
-Under ideal conditions (Sunny Weather, clear water, used near the surface) the image results can be superb for such a cheap camera
-Considering most of the cost is probably in the housing, it does better than expected as a general purpose cheap land camera

Cons
- Flash is useless in housing. Need expensive off-camera flash for good results in less than ideal conditions (without direct sunlight, or at any significant depth)
- Shutter delay is substantial and can be tricky to use – you have to lead moving subjects a little which takes practice

Sony MPK-WD Marine Pack

List Price: $199.99 USD
New From: $131.99 In Stock

Waterproof housing for DSC-W150,W170 and W300 Cyber-shot digital still cameras.

Technical Details

* Compatible with DSC-W150,W170 and W300
* Up to 132 feet deep
* Basic camera functions available while in use
* LCD hood and hand strap included
* Waterproof housing for selected W series cameras

Pros:

The case is well built, and I have every confidence in its ability to protect my camera even down to 40 meters (the max rating of the housing). It has a nice firm, solid feel to the latch, easy to change o-ring (comes with a tube of o-ring grease and a spare o-ring). It has a diffuser for the flash (so that it isn’t obscurred as one reviewer lamented). The buttons are easy to press and give access to all of the camera’s normal features. It fits like a glove because it was purpose built for the camera. I couldn’t be happier with it.

This case does it’s job. It keeps the water out. Took it to 50′ on my first dive, for almost an hour and a half, and no issues.
